Spot Toning and Painting: The Positive Side of Transparency
What you will need:
- Latex or polyurethane gloves
- Surgical mask (if the film was opened)
- Any water-based paint that will adhere to transparency
- Mixing cups
- Tap water
- A fiberboard
- Clips or masking tape
- Size 02 to 0000 watercolor paintbrush
- Prepare your paints and have a rinse wash available.
- Attach the transparency to the fiberboard.
- Using a paintbrush apply the paint to the positive side of the transparency starting in the biggest area you wish to paint first. Repeat as necessary.
- When you are finished, leave the image clipped to the board and allow it to dry.
Troubleshooting:
The transparency isn't holding the paint.
Make sure you haven't over-thinned the paint. Too much water in the mixture and the paint will be too thin to bond to the transparency.
